ZEBULON VANCE was born Buncombe County,North Carolina near present day Weaverville the third of eight children. His family was known to on a great amount of slaves. He had a uncle in congress. At a twelve he was sent to washington College Academy. The death of his father sent him back home and he quit college. He was determined to go to law school so when he was twenty-one and wrote a letter to the president of the University of North carolina. He attended the university.But he came to be a leader of a army and was destroyed in a battle of gettysburg.
